Marcus Lilley of FutrSocial

Secret Agent Marketing have teamed up with FutrSocial to offer a series of free workshops aims to give Wiltshire businesses and organisations a better understanding of social media.

The informal courses will be led by social media entrepreneur Marcus Lilley (that’s him above) whose Marlborough-based firm, FutrSocial, helps people across the UK get to grips with an ever-changing array of communications technology.

When I came into journalism in 1992, the local newspaper industry was just about dragging itself into the electronic age, with a clunky PC on most desks.

Back then, the line between journalists and audience was clear: we reported; you read, watched or listened.

Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+… How do they fit into your marketing strategy? Do they fit in at all? Is social media something you think you should be using, but you don’t know where to start?

If you’re new to Twitter, you might start to see warnings via the direct messaging (DM) facility claiming that ‘someone is posting nasty rumours about you’.

Out of a concern for your personal or brand reputation, or maybe just out of curiosity, you might be tempted to click the link and investigate. Don’t.

If you do, you run the risk of having your account hijacked. You’ll be directed to a fake Twitter log-in page where the scammers will ask you to enter your username and password (a common ploy is to tell you that your session has timed out).

Once they have these details they’ll start using your account to push diet pills, pornographic content and other undesirable products and services – in your name. (more…)
